The history of St. Jodern

Grown. Rooted. Thinking ahead.

In 1935, Bishop Viktor Bieler expressed the wish for a retreat house in the Lower and Upper Valais. On October 23, 1938, the time had come and the St. Jodern House of Education was inaugurated. The original purpose of the house, which is owned by the diocese of Sion, was on the one hand to offer retreats for the population and on the other hand to provide a place for elderly and destitute priests of the diocese to spend their twilight years.

The introduction of the AHV and pension fund has allowed the Bildungshaus to focus on new tasks. The house offers training and further education for church employees, but also offers courses and events for the general public.
